A friend shared with me a great version of the 12 days of Christmas, but with 12 ways to replace conventional household items with green alternatives. It was originally written in 2004 by Vincent Stanley for the Green Guide. And the goal was ideas that were $30.00 or less.
As I have been researching in 3 years that has changed a bit!
From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It’ll teach you something, it’ll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.
On Tuesday, December 12, LaDainian Tomlinson hosted an event at Kit Carson Park in Escondido, California to honor first responders.
In a heart felt speech to a huge crowd of firefighters, police officers, and medical personnel Tomlinson conveyed his gratitude for their hard work,
and saving his home.
Improved performance in any one of these areas can produce tangible savings for the business-savvy facility manager.
Buildings generate waste during operation; can have poor indoor air quality, affecting worker health; and produce roughly a third of carbon dioxide emissions and other emissions that harm air quality. By improving and streamlining day-to-day building operations, facility managers can create and maintain a better work environment while netting big financial dividends for their organization.
I’m frequently searching for useful trail guides with up-to-date listings, comments, reviews, and maps. I have yet to find the ultimate guide, and I was tired of searching everytime and thought instead of bookmarking them, I would list them here so I could get at them and share them at the same time.
When I think of Philips I think of electronics and appliances. But I don’t think about a building sustainable city design. Yet that is exactly what they are thinking and working towards.
Philips has launched a series of what they call “Design Probes.” These design probes are intended to, “track trends and developments that may ultimately evolve into mainstream issues that have a significant impact on business,” as part of a “far-future” research initiative.
I was torn whether to post this in Tell us about your day at work or in Shop Talk. It could be any industry, any job, any time. For me it was the Christmas card emergency.
Projects and clients often wait until the last minute to be complete things, but this was my special holiday treat to bear. It is 11 o’clock in the morning, I am just sitting down to prepare for a meeting I had at 1 o’clock (speaking of last minute), when I get a call from another client asking me to help finish their Christmas card. I thought no big deal, take the info, and I’ll call back later to get the details. Unfortunately the card was supposed to be at the printer by 12 o’clock.
Piggybacking on the best and worst Thanksgiving – how about sharing traditions, good or bad. Shopping black Friday deals? Guessing what kind of dip is on the table? What will Grandma say this year? Ham or Turkey or ?!?! what is it?
I am an interior plant maintenance technician who has a severe case of plant killing phobia.
NICK DOUGLAS — Saving the world isn’t just for doctors in Africa and technocrats in San Jose. They need funding, processing power, and support: and that’s just what you have. You don’t even need to move your lazy butt. Just stop reading blogs and Digg posts and take a minute to save the world using these ten sites.
Hey, before the sun started setting at 3 in the afternoon I was hitting the trails just about everynight for an hour or two at least. But since the time change I haven’t been out at all. I could really use somebody local who would be in to scheduling rides (y’know to keep us both motivated).
