I read the book ” Firefught Inside the Battle to Save the Pentagon on 9/11.”
By Creedand Newman. In the book they state that the fire was so hot that wrinkles in Firefighters turn out coats allowed hot gasses in, burning their skin. Benchmark FR 2nd Skins would give more protection to Firefighters.

First let me start by saying I am a huge fan of this light! Works great and is large enough that you can not easily misplace it! I just found out a few interesting facts that I did not know,and wanted to share with all of you! The burn time using the Battery stick is about 6 hours. The burn time using 4 – C batteries is 11 hours and produces a brighter light!!! I took a couple of pics next to my 7060 and also with the traffic wand. My photography does not do justice!

I have heard of a proposed new law that would force taggers to clean up their graffiti. There are people who think that the taggers may be at risk of violence
if they remove graffiti. Why not hire off duty Police Officers to wacth the graffiti removal and let the taggers who put the graffiti there pay for the Officers.

I just added a link to the 1st Responders broadcasting network. They provide a wide variety of National and State news for law enforcement and firefighters, as well as video and audio news. They have regular informative columns on useful topics such as Advanced Extrication – 101, Arson Investigation, Health and Fitness, and Staying safe.

I heard the good news tonight that Jake the San Diego Police Dog was released from the hospital. He was stabbed in the line of duty, but it looks like he will be able to return to duty when he has had some time to recover.Just wanted you to know Jake that me and my family are very glad to hear that news!!!!

If your firehouse wanted a forum for your website, but you weren’t sure how to go about doing it, these fine folks set one up for you on their server and all you need to do is use it. Like I said, it is my wish that we can help build a fine community for you here (let us know what you need), but the World Firefighter folks are offering a fine free service.

Great news and information site for you folks in blue. And the forum seems busier than a coyote chasin’ dinner. They’ve got a magazine and everything.

LaDainian Tomlinson celebrates first responders in San Diego

On Tuesday, December 12, LaDainian Tomlinson hosted an event at Kit Carson Park in Escondido, California to honor first responders.
In a heart felt speech to a huge crowd of firefighters, police officers, and medical personnel Tomlinson conveyed his gratitude for their hard work,
and saving his home.

“You know what, people think athletes are the real heroes, but all we do is entertain and try to set the right example for people.
But the firefighters, the sheriffs, the nurses, the doctors, you guys are the real heroes because you’re protecting us and keeping us safe.”

The NFL MVP and his wife, LaTorsha, wanted to show their appreciation for the hardwork and sacrifices during Fire Storm 2007.

Just before the couple received a reverse 911 call giving them a mandatory evacuation,
LaDainian was trying to watch the games and apparently unaware of the fires to the dismay of his wife.

According to Tomlinson, after the evacuation he sneaked back into his neighborhood to check the situation.

“There were fires everywhere. The most amazing thing to me was how the firefighters and the Sheriff’s Department was in there.
They didn’t care about their lives. They were just trying to protect our homes.”

“That’s when for me it struck home how important this was and how much I appreciated what they were doing.”

Of everything that could have been going through his mind, his personal possessions, including a prized NFL MVP trophy, were not in his thoughts.
“I wasn’t worried about that. I was worried about the firefighters who were fighting the fires.”

“My wife and I went back and it was amazing. I don’t know how the fire did not burn my house down,” LT said.

Lunch was served to over a thousand individuals, many of them first responders in uniform. Despite Tomlinson inviting the heroes to the event to be honored, many of the people still took the opportunity to join Tomlinson on stage for photographs and autographs.

Active fire mapping in Google Earth

Want to know where fires are breaking out around the country? The US Forest Service maintains coordinates of active fires that you view in Google Earth.

View the live map in Google Earth (note: requires Google Earth to be installed)

US Forest Service Active Fires Map – The USFS has a web site dedicated to tracking active fires. They use a combination of satellites from space which detect the fires, and combine that with ground-based information to produce the maps. All data points are placemarks with further information. Check out the fire map [Google Earth File. You must have GE installed.] for the continental US which includes the California fires.

I am not a member of this community but I figured it was a good place to share my thoughts. I am a native San Diegan and as most of you know we just went thru another fire storm a few weeks back. A friend of mine sent me some pics recently of the local fire and the one that I have attached really stood out when I was looking at them. I can not even imagine being these two firefighters and facing this kind of a scene over and over agian. Last week I was making a trip out to the desert and I went up via I-15 past Fallbrook, while passing the Pala Mesa resort I thought of these two men in the picture. The scene was one of devastation, yet you could see time and time again where trees next to houses were burned and the homes remained untouched. I wanted to take a moment of time to say Thank You to not only the Fire fighters, Cal Fire, Police, Sheriffs and etc.. Thank you for putting your life on the line to protect not only life, but property. I do not know how you do it, but thank you!!!!
