I was reading about the 1964 Presidential election. Goldwater and Johnson were talking about an unpopular war, the economy and Socilal Security. Forty four years have gone by and nothing has changed nor been fixed.

So true Lauren.

As I do research for my novel which involves a variety of political and economic topics it is almost shocking to see how little some things change. I’d always heard as a child that we study history so we don’t repeat it, but either we aren’t studying or it isn’t helping.

Out of curiosity why were you reading about 1964 politics?

And what are your suggestions and solutions for some of these problems that just don’t seem to be going away?

1. My Dad and I were talking about it.
2. T.V. adds are the big cost for politicians. Make the T.V. adds free. Limit the time for campaigns. Make all lobbyist report to a independent citizens committee. Lobbist must state who they will talk to and what they will say. This would then be public record.
