Hello:
So it’s been a while since I’ve posted up here (we’ve been hard at work on a brand new UK Cases site… more on that coming soon), but I thought I would check in to let you all know I have a brand new TV Show obsession. Along with the rest of the world, and pretty much every TV critic there is I’ve decided Mad Men is a pretty amazing show. I know I am jumping on the bandwagon pretty late, but the show has me pretty much addicted and I tore through the first season in just a few days (which of course means that now I need an even NEWER TV show obsession). It’s unlikely, of course, that I will spot an UK Cases or lights on it since the show takes place in 1960 and UK didn’t start making some of the best cases and lights in the business until 1971, but I still thought I would post about it up here to see if there are any other fans.
Any other Mad Men watchers? If so, let’s discuss the season 2 premier last night, our favorite characters, how uncomfortable and complicated women’s clothes looked back in the day…

How did I not hear about this show? Probably something to do with the fact that I work all the time, and when I’m not I am on a trail, reading a book, or at a coffee shop ‘writing’. Or obsessively watching entire seasons of shows friends recommend…
I haven’t seen this yet as I just discovered it approximately 40 minutes ago (so I won’t thank you yet Case Lady :). However, a personal obsession of mine is consumerism and how it has shaped the modern world. The time period covered has so much interesting stuff going on related to corporations, marketing, and philosophies and concepts that have gone on to change our world in ways most people are completely unaware.
Notably I am referring to Edward Bernays and Anne Freud’s utilization of the psychology of the subconscious to manipulate public opinion. I am really curious if the show delves that deep. The 1960’s and early 70’s saw advertising and the new public relations industry coming of age, leaving infancy, and moving to whole new levels of sociological (sometimes sociopathic) influence and power that would change the face of human experience through the 80’s and 90’s.
I am very excited to see what this has in store, especially since your tastes in storytelling have thus far been impeccable.
You will have to wait until tomorrow for me to start commenting on the show itself. Nice UK plug though! Is there a secret preview you can show us “insiders” for the new site? :) Would love to see what is in store and how far out you are. What exciting tricks do you have in your case?
