The San Diego Auto show was held this past weekend. We made the usual trip to check out the latest and greatest. One of our cars is getting very close to retirement and I was just checking out what cars got decent gas milage! To my surprise alot of them still do not, so I began looking into the Hybrid vehicles. They seem a bit pricey up front but I am thinking it may be worth it?
I was doing a little on line research and came accross this article by Matthew Yi from the San Francisco Chronicle. I thought I would share it for those of you who may already have Hybrids, seems like a great thing to take advantage of!
“Drivers of gas-sipping hybrids who don’t yet have Clean Air decals that would allow them to drive in carpool lanes without restriction will get a chance to obtain the prized stickers in 2007. But if you don’t already have an application filed with the California Department of Motor Vehicles, you should hurry.
Starting in the new year, the DMV will make available 10,000 additional Clean Air stickers that authorize hybrids to be driven in carpool lanes even if the driver is the vehicle’s only occupant. The vehicles that qualify are Toyota Prius (model years 2001-2007); Honda Insight (2002-2005); and Honda Civic Hybrid (2003-2007).
Earlier legislation authorized 75,000 stickers, but they have all been claimed. The DMV already has motorists on its waiting list to tap into the additional 10,000 stickers.
DMV spokesman Mike Marando said that as of Dec. 19, 3,275 applications have been approved and the department is looking at an additional 3,767 applications.
“I would encourage (motorists) to get their applications in as soon as possible,” he said.
The application form is available online at www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/decal.htm. “
