No longer a Truck Stop virgin; is that an oxymoron?

The destination we had marked after Portland, Oregon was Boise, Idaho. As soon as we entered the state we noticed that it had a different and still to this day, unidentifiable smell. It was not foul, and we chalked it up to a change in agricultural scapes but it proved to be one of those curious traits that one might not expect when traveling due to the inability to photograph smell or put it on paper. Farmland goodness, perhaps. Or maybe there was a hint in the air that the storms that were soon to follow were coming.

On our way to Boise we made an executive decision to drive at the approximate speed of 42 MPH in an attempt to conserve fuel and take our time to sight see what our homeland has to offer. Needless to say, making progress from any point A to point B that happens to cover any significant amount of ground takes a while at this rate. So, after a days driving, we stopped in Baker, Idaho to sleep for the night. Baker boasts little more than a Truck Stop however, so that was home for the night.

Previously I assume I would be completely turned off by such a thing as staying at a Truck Stop, however in spite of my pre-conceived notions, I had quite an excellent stay there. I can’t go so far as to call it cushy, but it was comfortable at the least. The Baker, Idaho Truck Stop houses several luxuries for travelers….hot, private showers, laundry, 24 hour cafe and restrooms and free and safe overnight parking. Not to mention a breath taking view of the mountains, if you look beyond the 18 wheelers and flashy signs that line the main street. Our plain white curtains were even transformed to a new dimension of brilliant colors which was a fun atmosphere for us to take our slumber.
