How to: UltraLight SIDEJET style homemade alcohol stove from cans

How to: UltraLight SIDEJET style homemade alcohol stove from cans
  • (2) Soda cans
  • Utility knife / Razor blade knife
  • Thumbtack
  • Wire hanger (sand off coating), Gutter guard (doesn’t rust – see wickstyle stove for info ), or similar for pot stand
  • Fiberglass (small wad – but not absolutely neccessary…)
  • Rubbing alcohol (or Heet is sometimes recommended in this how to video)
  • Sand paper (fine)(to remove printing on cans if desired)

After posting the wick style home made camping stove how-to from I found this how to for the more common sidejet style stove from cool347957989 at YouTube .

As I mentioned in the Wick style how to, HappyCamperBus built an entire stove for their VW bus using this stove design and I many of my camper friends, even zoe’s sister Tammy also makes this type of stove for her camping/hiking/backpacking adventures.

This particular how to is quick and easy to follow. But I wanted to point out that it recommends using fiberglass inside the “fuel tank”, though of the folks I have met you use this style of camping stove, I have never seen anyone do this. That is not to say that doing so wouldn’t improve performance or fuel efficiency, but I have no information or evidence to confirm this.

Have fun on and off the trails of life.

I am a big mountain biking fan and try to ride as much as I can, and also love to kayak in the ocean here in California but haven’t been out in a while. Unfortunately work has been keeping me pretty busy. So doubly I’m gonna need your help knowing what stories, images, and features you would most like to see here. For now, please sign up, join the community, get your profile filled out so other people will know a little about you, and start posting some stories about your outdoor adventures.
