Download Day. Firefox is going for a world record

On Tuesday, June 17, 2008 Firefox (our preferred browser) is not only going to release version 3, but they are attempting to set a Guinness World Record for the most downloads in a day.

I know that a lot of my friends and colleagues already use Firefox, in part due to my incessant evangelizing anytime I see an IE logo appear on someone’s computer (but I’ll bet you haven’t been downloading the nightly builds as version 3 was coming out – well except Jason). Well tomorrow, whether you a hardcore fan or just want to find out what all the hype has been about, you can experience any even better browsing experience and participate in a world record.

Mozilla is attempting to break 1.6 million downloads in a single day, which was the number of downloads of Firefox 2 on it’s release day. And as it says in the SpreadFirefox FAQ, “Let’s shoot for 5 million—the sky is the limit!”

They stress though that there should be no cheating. No bots, no multiple downloads. Play fair and make it legit. Mozilla is implementing various methods of discarding duplicate downloads, detecting bots, and other foul play.

Set a Guinness World Record. Enjoy a Better Web.

Sounds like a good deal, right? All you have to do is get Firefox 3 during Download Day to help set the record for most software downloads in 24 hours – it’s that easy. We’re not asking you to swallow a sword or to balance 30 spoons on your face, although that would be kind of awesome.

The official date for the launch of Firefox 3 is June 17, 2008.

So if you haven’t made the switch from some other browser to Firefox, do it tomorrow. Download Firefox 3 at SpreadFirefox.com
