We arrived at Grizzly Creek State Park and were excited to have found such a lovely spot to stay, the beauty in this corner of the country is unmatched. We headed onto the grounds to pick our campsite and we spoke to the Park Ranger, a warm man who looked liked Grizzly Adams himself. He told us with a little bit of embarrassment and alot of couth, that there is actually a better spot to camp 5 miles down the road. He said he the sites are larger and more private, not to mention 5 bucks cheaper. He gave us directions that resembled a treasure hunting map (50 yards after the strait bridge, you will find a curved bridge, be aware to watch at this point for a sign that is facing the opposite direction…) but that got us there and we quickly landed at Swimmers Delight….the best camp site I have witnessed to date.
Our spot was nestled in between a flowing creek on a private strip of beach and a forest full of massive California Redwoods.
Here I gained some of the fondest memories of my life. Me and Smick spent our days here skipping rocks, walking through the forest marveling, sitting near our campfire, lying in the grass in love. We even stripped down to our britches in an attempt to swim in the creek, but alas, the water was too cold and when our toes froze in the testing, we retired to combing the sand in the near nude for unique rocks and other finds. We were overwhelmed by the feelings of freedom and fun that came with a little bit of privacy. It is not something taken for granted.
