Help! What are my dimmable green lighting options?

I am trying hard to improve my views and habits when it comes to environmental issues and resource/energy conservation. While we have many low wattage and compact flourescent bulbs in our home, my studio still used several halogen bulbs in hanging pendant lamps on a dimmer, which creates the perfect amount of pleasant and friendly illuminiation regardless of the task at hand. The feeling ranging from intimate and relaxing to bright and ready for the next major project.
Switching these lights to compact fluorescents would save a lot of energy and money in the long run, but I would entirely loose the flexibility in lighting for this space.
Admittedly I have only done preliminary research, but I can’t find a lot of dimmable green lighting options. I found some potential dimmable led solutions such as this under the counter IllumaLed under cabinet light at Squidoo but I’m not sure if this alone would work.
Anybody out there have any thoughts or solutions. I would like to continue using the hanging pendants, but I am open to other potential solutions. Any thoughts or direction would be helpful.

There weren’t always dimmers in there, right? I know you hate the brightness, so maybe some better shaded fixtures would work. The fluorescents could even have semi-opaque covers over them without starting a fire.

I don’t know, maybe it is the heat we’ve had the last few days, but that light bulb sure looks like an ice-cream cone!
Perhaps Alan would be a good person to check with on this? He has more dimming lights than anyone I know.
