Earth Hour a success!!!

Well the day came and went. Out here in the desert it didn’t make much difference (pretty dark anyway), but we participated in the Earth Hour event, turning off our lights from 8-9pm March 29 .

Thanks to Tammy Bowser for bringing the whole event to our attention. Apparently Tammy is putting together her support/action group to work with Earth Hour in San Diego. Her organization is called StarryNightSD and apparently will utilize the community blog functionality of CoTradeCo to rally support at her own site. CoTradeCo is excited to support and work with people like Tammy to fulfill their dreams of a better world.

Earth Hour sent out a newsletter about this year’s event and I thought I would share it with you all here:

Earth Hour Newsletter

Earth Hour 2008 was a remarkable global event – and individuals, families, businesses and cities across America helped lead the call for action on climate change.

This event provided the entire world with the opportunity to speak with one voice in defense of the planet and our future. And they seized it.

On March 29th, 2008, people across the globe turned off their lights – to make a statement, to find new ways to reduce their impact on the environment, and to be a part of a worldwide effort to confront a global challenge. Tens of thousands of Americans – in Chicago, Atlanta, Phoenix, San Francisco and dozens of other communities large and small – signed up and “turned out” from 8-9 pm. Mayors, citizens’ groups, schools and corporations from coast to coast made their voices heard.

Around the globe, people on seven continents took part, from Albania to Zimbabwe, Bosnia to Uzbekistan, Canada to Uruguay.

There has never been a more widespread and simultaneous global action on an environmental issue – and we’re just getting started.

Earth Hour broke down boundaries. Never before have corporations, governments and private citizens united around fighting climate change on this scale. It’s this spirit – that we’re in it together, and together we can find a solution – that is essential to winning the battle to protect our fragile planet. One person can make a difference; millions coming together can change the world.
