I had an awful nightmare last night
beingzoe 6 months ago |

I think my dreams were mostly good, but they ended badly.

Apparently I was on a date at some large community-wide event in some sort of alien community. I say alien, though in classic dream stuff everyone was human and it appeared like an old world European town square. It was quite dim with light coming mainly from strings of bare small light bulbs and from lit windows in the buildings along the streets. People were everywhere dancing and laughing and dressed quite formally. I was separated from my date as we neared an intersection, I think she was being escorted to a restroom, but we had ordered food somehow and I waited for her at a table I was escorted to by someone.

At the table already eating was another couple. I was seated on the side closest our approach where the woman was seated. They didn’t really acknowledge my addition to their table and I simply sat and looked around. Tall cool beverages were brought along with two small appetizers consisting of what looked like shredded chicken in a sauce intended to be eaten with ripped off bits of bread.

Suddenly the woman next to me reached over a scooped up some the appetizer in front of me despite the fact that they were obviously completing a full meal. Unsure of the customs I said nothing. But then the man did the same to my date’s plate but with a flair and flagrancy that seemed somewhat taunting. Still unsure of what was happening I did my best to ignore it.

But the man did it again, this time his whole torso bending allowing his upper body to swing in front of and over the appetizer plat with an elbow supporting him. He was staring at me with menace and began to slowly and deliberately spoon the appetizer into his mouth, foregoing the bread and doing so with his bare hands.

Now I tried to, as casual as possible, reach over and pull the appetizer towards me. I was beginning to get annoyed regardless of the customs.

The man became agitated, and now it became clear that the way he had leaned over in front of the dish wasn’t humanly possible, requiring his body to stretch and bend unnaturally. He was saying something it some language I do not know when awake but in the dream was clearly along the lines of, “Oh, you do not share? You can stop me?”

He made little grabbing gestures with his hands towards the plate feigning to take more, but held back from actually doing so at first. I continued to mostly look away at the revelers throughout the seat who were oblivious to my situation.

Then he grabbed another handful of the appetizer and I must have yelled at him or something. The man’s face became that of an over-sized Mexican wrestling mask, yet this was no mask, it was his face now twice as big as it should be on his body. The ‘mask’ was black with white trim, some kind of jagged triangular pattern ringing the entire face and big white rings around the eyes and mouth. Around the mouth were white markings indicating giant elongated shark-like teeth. But these markings were not painted on to a mask at all, the teeth were real in his own real mouth yet somehow still part of the mask.

Like a simple school yard bully, the creature threatened, “Yes, you are going to stop me? What are you going to do?” His head was now twisting back and forth on much longer neck than I remembered originally as if his head and neck were it’s own serpent entity attached to a human body in a fine suit.

As the creature became more excited instead of simply writhing it’s head left to right it now began thrusting it’s head to and fro farther and closer to me occasionally snapping it’s cartoon-ish alien shark jaws.

By now I was in extreme panic, unable to move, unable to respond except to hold my hand up as if I would block that deadly mouth with the tender flesh of my body.

While the creature did not actually say it out loud, it were as though I could hear it’s thoughts, and it was saying, “I will bite your hand off, go ahead, I will bite your arm off.”

I remained in this state of sheer terror for who knows how long in dream-time, the anxiety and fear rising beyond tolerability every moment. In reality this whole end to my dream lasted perhaps only 30 seconds if I had to venture a guess.

I awoke terrified and panicked.

The feeling subsided quickly. When I first woke I remember an extended story-line that led up to that including some sort of rundown sci-fi warehouse where I was employed, or perhaps on some sort of espionage mission. Now I can only remember that terrifying conclusion and the awful sensations upon waking.

I don’t have bad dreams often. And when I do they are particularly terrible.

What are some nightmares you remember?
