The weight lifter in the Governor’s office is going to close 220 out of 279 California State Parks. So for those of us who were looking for a cheap close to home vacation can forget it. I have a feeling that this is blackmail so He can raise taxes. Note the story in the L.A.Times where Arnold states He is seeking radical new ways to raise taxes.
Stand by, Prop 13 is the target.

This action by our State Government has nothing with saving money nor reducing the debt. It is designed to PUNISH the voters. The poltroons in Sacramento want to get even with the Voters who will not let them do what they want.

The weekend of June 20 is the save our state parks rally at any and all state parks!!!!! http://www.savestateparks.org/events/
If they’re gonna close ‘em down, I’m gonna be inside when they do! Who wants to join?
Thanks for sharing this information. As a user and visitor of many of these state parks my plans for this weekend just changed. We were heading to Balboa Park this Saturday for a hike but have now moved that to Torrey Pines to help the cause. It seems sad that so many of are parks are to be closed when they are pay to use??? I just don’t get it! I noticed that Pfeffier Big Sur is also on the list of places, I would love to be there as it is one of my happy places, but Torrey Pines is much more doable! And yes I will wear green the entire weekend!!
Hi Stacy! I plan on being at Torrey Pines as well! Most likely on Sunday. Maybe I will see you there!
Here is the list of proposed park closures:

Unfortunately I am out of town so please make an extra big ruckus for me.
I just can’t believe that this is a serious discussion. I am disgusted.

This is outrageous. Our state parks are hardly a financial drain and should be among the last things to close. From what I’ve heard (no citations sadly) the state parks bring in more money than they cost to operate.
And besides, I would rather have state parks with the amenities shut down than no park to go to at all. I’m also sure based on the local volunteer trail management groups it would be possible to build a volunteer work force to maintain the basics.
What are they going to do, shut them down and build strip malls? C’mon people, if we get rid of our parks we are damning what I had come to think of as permanent open space, a valuable commodity these days.
