I’m posting this picture for Alan, who has a SPOT here to be friendly, but he really isn’t into the whole internet thing (except for research) so I seriously doubt he’ll post. So I’m posting this pic of his great costume from 2007.

Alan is well known for creating completely original costumes. So original in fact that they are virtually indescribable, which he have discovered over subsequent Halloweens really drives people crazy! Apparently it disturbs the human psyche to be incapable of labeling or understanding something. I wonder if all these pre-fab pop culture costumes we can buy now has stunted our imaginations? But in Alan’s case it isn’t just that is an original creation, it’s that they are really and truly abstract to the point of surreality. Like watching a living Dali or Picasso painting walk down the street.

The year before he had built a giant shiny elongated triangle. That one really bugged people as it had no basis in reality. Just a metallic shape shimmering and bending along.

Another year he covered his entire body in paintable black latex. Wearing nothing but bike type shorts, he appeared only as a black emptiness in the shape of a human form that proved to REALLY FREAK PEOPLE OUT. Though he didn’t shave enough body hair off on that one and I was left ripping and cutting it out of his hair, especially bad was the hair on the back of his neck. Ouch!
