Twice a year Dr. Dapo Popoola, MD leads a team of volunteers from The Peninsula Community Church in Palos Vedes Estates, California on a medical mission to Bombo, Nigeria. They provide free medical care for the local residents who would otherwise not have care. Electricity can be an off and on again thing during the day and frequently fails during surgery. On previous visits the nurses often held a flashlight over the doctors head while he worked. Trader Dan and his mother donated a Pelican 9450 to Dr. Popoola and the team which they took to Bombo. The Remote Lighting System gave them great, unobstructed light to operate in without the fear of a power outage.
We are a better world because of the missions that Dr. Popoola, Jim Welch and the team do each year. To see more pictures from the September 2008 trip go to http://.www.easysite.com/uganda. There are numerous articles about Dr. Popoola at www.obesitycommand.com/surgilite/articles/default.htm.
Dan, thank you for sharing such a heart warming story. I believe sharing events like this with the younger generations is so important. It’s amazing to see the smiles on the kids faces as they are playing in the dirt, yet they truly look happy. How can this be!!! They don’t even have a PS2, X-box, computers, I Pods…..
The kids I see in America are growing up in such a self centered, materialistic, computer driven life they need to see more of this. It’s great for our kids to see how lucky they are. Sorry for babbling, but stories like this seam to touch every one differently. Personally it’s the selfless act of giving to help others with expectations of nothing in return but to enrich lives, that is what I want my kids to take from this.
That is awesome. I didn’t even know we had donated a light(s?).
I’m proud of you Trader Dan. One of the many reasons I’m pleased to be a part of CoTradeCo.
As always an excellent posting.The
way you write is awesome.Thanks. Adding more information will be more useful.

I’m so glad they got the light. Those folks over at PUPT (Penninsula Uganda P.E.A.C.E Trips) and Dr. Popoola are doing some good work. I can’t think of a better place for one of our lights to be!
