Death Valley in February

Here’s a great getaway for you. Check out going to Death Valley between now and the first of April. The temperature is very comfortable, the scenery beautiful and the night sky something to behold. A must is a tour of Scotties Castle. It’s hard to imagine him building something so unique out in the middle of nowhere. If you crave more action spend one night in the valley and then head over the hill to Las Vegas.

There are 3 million acres of wilderness for hiking…

During the early 1900’s there were boomtowns with fascinating histories like Greenwater, the town that had no water; Schwab, the town owned by women; Harrisburg, the town that should have been named Harrisberry and Panamint City, a town so lawless that silver was cast in 400 pound cubes for transporting so that outlaws couldn’t steal it..

During World War II it was a temporary haven for 65 Japanese Americans whose lives had been threatened at Manzanar War Relocation Camp…

Who is this Scottie anyway?
In fact, the popular 32,000-square-foot compound was built in 1927 by Albert Johnson, a wealthy Chicago insurance executive, who constructed Death Valley Ranch for his health. How Johnson’s ranch came to be called Scotty’s Castle, is a tribute to Walter E. Scott, who during a lifetime of shameless self-promotion, hustling and swindling, came to be known as Death Valley Scotty.
