Moonbeam & Brainpan!

This one goes out to my fellow ‘Lost’ fans.

I have just now received regular Internet acess and one of the first things on my list is getting caught up on ‘Lost’. I fear I am 2 seasons behind or so. Another priority is not only catching up on my blog, but re-reading and responding to all of the glorious posts here on cotradeco.com that have caught my attention. There is a ton! You guys are awesome.

I digress. So, ABC launched a new Sawyer nick-name generator http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=nickname
where he doles out one of his witty pet names to anyone interested. Though the outcome was a trifle under-whelming, I was fraught with excitement over finding our nicknames (to trump our already in existence nicknames) out. He is quite funny with them, if you are a fan.

Smick & Ily = Moonbeam & Brainpan.

What fun.

Nice. Sawyers nicknames are half the fun of the show.

You are behind. Though it seemed to hit a lull for a while, I really enjoyed the last season and predict that the next will be even better. I am excited. But I am trying to wait for the entire season of all these shows to be over before I start watching. You know how much I hate having to wait for the next episode.

Speaking of Lost, have you seen the JJ Abrams show, Fringe? It is a show about “fringe science (i.e. psuedo science). If you haven’t I am recommending to NOT! The pilot was really quite awful. According to once source the pilot cost 10 million (more than the outrageous high water mark set by Lost) but unfortunately did not live up to the same quality of writing, suspense, interesting characters, or well anything.

Honestly it was hard to not turn it off. AFter finishing the pilot I went online to see if the critics were lambastinig the show, but they weren’t. The worst review indicated a ‘lackluster’ pilot but a promising new show. So this forced we to watch the next episode to see if it really got better. But it didn’t, not really. The second episode was better, but not better enough to warrant me becoming invested in following it.

I’m going off about it, because I feel somebody needs to say something, otherwise we are just going to have another mediocre piece of garbage on our air waves. I was going to write a whole article/post about it, but I’m doing that here instead.

Any Moonbeam and Brainpan, take care, enjoy the desert and keep on telling your story. The world needs to know.

Zoe:

Actually the reviews of at the AV Club’s TV club have been only okay. I have stuck with it so far (yikes! don’t be mad at me Zoe) but mainly because it is filling some sort of empty paranormal hole the X-Files/Buffy left in my heart.

I keep waiting for it to do something interesting however since so far it’s just been Pacey from Dawson’s creek acting annoyed, his dad acting crazy, and the lady agent looking wide-eyed…

Are you still in New Mexico my well traveled friends?
If so, I have some tidbits you may enjoy about your new home base.

Beavis and Butthead creator Mike Judge was born here. Highland (The town Beavis and Butthead takes place in) is derived from an area of Albuquerque.

Weird Al Yankovic wrote a song about Albuquerque for his 1999 album “Running with Scissors.” Yankovic mocked the city and risked lawsuit.

Santa Fe is the oldest capital of the United States, when it was occupied by Spain in the 1500s.

The City of Alamogordo made world-wide attention when in 2001, a church resurrected book burnings. The books that were burned were Harry Potter Books by author J.K. Rowling. The books depicted a young boy who discovers he has magical powers and is taken to a private witch school, with many mishaps along the way.

Atari, is said to have made a “burial ground” for all of it’s old games and consoles in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

Truth or Consequences…will soon be home to Virgin Galactica. Commercial Space Flights will be taking place in early 2007. The Town of Truth or Consequences got it’s name from a Radio Game Show. The town’s original name was Hot Springs.

You are a fount of information Kristen! The next time I go on a road trip I want you to be there. I always want to find obscure road side attractions and points of interest but somehow never find them. And here you know them all.

And Case Lady, I bothered to watch the second episode and wasn’t nearly as ‘bummed’ as I as after the pilot. The person who recommended it, also made the modern X-files claim which was what attracted me. The pilot just about killed me though. Empty vacuous plot progression, 3+ chase scenes without any real purpose (as if they ever do, but if you include a chase scene, it better either be legendary or legendary and the chased get away). They seemed incapable of deciding if they were doing a serious cop drama or campy Dr. Who style sci-fi adventure.

Admittedly the second episode had a much better balance, but nonetheless, I found nothing interesting or sympathetic about any of the characters. Well, not quite.

I actually said during the pilot that if the show became a Twilight zone type show with a loose ongoing story arc that took place around the ‘mad scientist’ and his son, while they learned to be true friends, trust each other, and became the zaniest ‘fringe science duo’ around, and then maybe you would have a show.

But THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY? C’mon now. Really? Is this a paid for propaganda piece to make me feel better about my rights being stripped from and a whole beaurocratic agency created for that purpose? Nope, ain’t buying it.

And some of those awful lines: “What kind of terrorism is this” Pilot/Episode 1, one of the first people to enter the plane.

Anyway, I would never judge you Case Lady. I’ve read your blog and there is no way I am going to end up the target of a scathing (and humorous) write up! ;) (Oh and I have zombie information for you)

All this reminds me that I have utterly failed to share my thoughts on Dr. Horrible and Mad Men. Somehow I find it easier to write about things that I hate than I enjoy!

Ily, thanks for the post and sounding board. Let me know what you think about Lost when you get caught up!

I do like to watch TV Shows much in the manner that you mentioned Zoe, one after another, not being able to bear the burden of having to wait an entire week to see what happens next. I am loving ‘Lost’ and the atmosphere of holing up with coffee and watching several shows in a sitting. There are few shows that I commit to, but I certainly do look to the TV talk here to determine if I want to get caught up in the commitment of taking on another show. Keep your feedback coming!

Oh, Kristin…you are a wealth of curios tidbits and I am not only amused by your info, but inspired to do alot more digging and sightseeing around New Mexico.

Most of the things I have heard from the locals here in Santa Fe revolve around a strange sort of vibe that resides here.
I have heard a TON of stories including traditional ghost stories, mysterious haunting, tales of vortexes and shape-shifters and the belief of something called the ‘Taos Hum’ seems very widely spread and accepted. Taos is a nearby Ski Village that is amazingly beautiful and equally as mysterious, apparently. It has a small amount of celebrity status, Kit Carson was a resident there and there are currently a few of the famos that reside there. I can think of Donald Rumsfield and Julia Roberts off the top of my head. It is also populated with ‘Earthships’, Smick and I were recently invited up there to come for dinner (comprised of local game and homegrown veggies) and to spend the night in a cave which serves as one of the bedrooms of an Earthship. We were warned that we may experience some very strange dreams.
Anyhow, the ‘Taos Hum’ is apparently a sound that is heard by a man whom has spent too much time in the wilderness alone and that hum denotes that person is about to go insane. Did I mention this theory is WIDELY accepted here?!

There is so much to write about New Mexico, I am going to start sorting my photos and my stories and get them out to you all.

Oh! I did meet a girl from Truth or Consequences. We meet in Roswell and she was very sweet, she gave us a huge bag of Pinion nuts. Anyhow, she reported in addition to becoming the new home to Virgin Galatica, that they are preparing to get their first Wal Mart (Ba-humbug!) ....that is how small of a town it is.

Oh, and zoe?! Would you pretty please delight me by trying Sawyer’s Nickname Generator? I am so just so curious!

Hugs.
