And then there was one! Ohio St. is my number 1 team in the land. They are beyond loaded. They return 18 starters from a team that has played in the BCS Title game the past two years. This team is so balanced its crazy. They return 9 starters on each side of the ball. This team is a year older, wiser, and hungrier. This isn’t the Buffalo Bils, they will win the Title this year.
It all starts with Coach Tressel. The guy is simply a winner. Wherever this man has coached, he has won. He now is operating one of the most powerful football programs in the country. He is a great x’s and o’s coach, yet he is very personable. There is a reason why he has Tip 3 recruiting classes each and every year. Once these kids commit, he has the perfect program instilled to make this guys winners.
The balance of the offense is amazing. They can beat you anyway they want to. Their offensive line is the reason. This O line is outsanding. Three of the offensive lineman are potential 1st Round draft picks next year. That line is led by super mammoth Alex Boone. This IS the best offensive line in the country. Because of this line, you get RB Chris Wells. He is arguably the best RB in the country. He is an amazing runner, who can do it all. North to South, through the tackles, or staying back and blocking, this guy can do it all. He’s on the short list of Heisman Contenders. He’s only a Junior, but i expect this year to be his final season in Columbus. Next up is senior QB Todd Boeckman. Boeckman is your classic old school QB. He’s a solid QB who knows how to manage the game. He’s also a winner. He’s similar to Chase Daniel with regards to his leadership abilities. Lastly, we get to the WR’s. This group is traditionally solid. This year is more of the same. Senior Brian Robiskie is the latest all world WR. They have 4 different possesion recievers, and all are capable and willing to come up BIG. The wild card for this offense is Super Recruit Terrelle Pryor. This kid is Tim Tebow squared! Their was a fierce recruiting battle for Pryor, and Ohio St. won the bidding war. As the season wears on, Pryor will acquire certain game packages that will allow him to showcase his athleticism. Look for him to ignite the offense if it ever becomes stagnant. This offense is well balanced, staffed with a veteran crew, and will score tons of points.
The defense of Ohio St. comes equipped with a world class 4-3 formation. They are led by all world linebacker James Laurinaitis. If you don’t know of this gentleman, you better find out. He’s a top 10 pick next April. He’s already an Ohio St. legend, and that’s saying something. He breathes fire, and brings the heat. He is a human highlight film. The Defensive Line is solid, despite the loss of Vernon Gholston. The Defensive Line will still be able to pressure opposing QB’s at will. Stepping back a unit, anything the Defensive line missed, the linebacking crew will finish the deal. They are an athetically gifted group, that can go sideline to sideline QUICK. They are powerful hitters, and can stop the run with ease. What’s scary is that i haven’t even mentioned the secondary, which might be the best part of their defense. They are incredibly stacked on defense, returning 9 starters.
What makes Ohio St. so great this year is their experience and leadership. This team might be the most motivated team in the country. Being the most talented and motivated team in the land is scary. Their schedule sets up very favorable. They have one “losable” game and that’s at USC. However, i think Ohio St. is playing USC at the perfect time, EARLY in the season. I don’t think Mark Sanchez and Co. will be able to score against Ohio St. With this win at USC, it will propel them to the BCS National Title Game. Their schedule is far more favorable than other teams in the top 10. Ohio St. will win the BCS National Title this year!
