The West Virginia Mountaineers are back in 2008. This is a highly motivated group from the Administration, Coaching Staff, and players. This team wants to show the world that they are more that just Rich Rodriguez.
The offense remains spectacular. They will still run their version of the spread offense. Actually, you can run any offense you want when you have Quarterback Pat White. This guy is a freak of nature. There is nothing that can stop this guy. He can do it all, and he will show off his arm a bit more this year. Combine hit with superfreak Noel Devine, and you have two guys that can take it to the house at any moment. Steve Slaton has moved on to the NFL, but Devine is better than Slaton. He is smaller, but much faster, and can catch the ball out of the backfield or on any screen pass. Their offense will continue to be the class of the Big East and will keep them in the National Title Picture.
However, as good as their offense is, they will need their defense to step up in a big way. Many observers feel this team can be better than last years unit. I disagree, because i’m not a believer of this defense. Of course they will still be good since i have them at #9. They do have a good linebacking crew, and a solid defensive line. They have some solid newcomers coming in, but i don’t think they are championship ready yet.
Overall, this team has OVER written all over it. This offense is amazing, and they will score points at will. Their defensive secondary is their Achilles heel, as they can get beat by solid passing attacks. Luckily for them, the Big East is rather average in passing offense. This is a solid team, that has National Championship on their minds. I have them at #9 in my College Football Rankings.
