Official Rules or the Nitty-Gritty details

1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY to win the GRAND PRIZE or get the FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVE PROMOTIONAL DISCOUNTS. Void where prohibited. Odds of winning the GRAND PRIZE are dependent upon the number of entries received (i.e. pictures of people and their laptops uploaded to the 1090/1090 Give Away Digital Life community blog topic. The other 1090 deals and discounts are on a first-come-first-serve basis ONLY for those who have entered the give away contest by uploading a picture of them and their laptops. NOTE: It was brought to our attention that while we do not require a purchase to enter the contest, technically we require a picture of a laptop, implying that someone needs to have purchased a laptop. That is sort of the point of the contest. But, in the interest of fairness, we will allow any picture of any laptop (that you have the legal right to submit). But you still need access to a computer to upload the picture. See the JUDGING SECTION and newly added ACCESSIBLITY SECTION below for more information on this.
2. CONTEST FOR THE GRAND PRIZE BEGINS June 17, 2008 12:30am and ENDS July 31, 11:30pm (10:90pm) (1,090 hours).
3. First-come-first-serve promotional discounts begin June 27, 2008 11:30am ONLY TO THOSE WHO HAVE ENTERED THE CONTEST!

5. ELIGIBILITY. To qualify for entry for the free case and/or to claim the first come first serve promotional discounts, you must have, or sign up for, a SPOT at CoTradeCo and UPLOAD a picture of you and your laptop to the 1090/1090 Give Away Digital Life community blog topic.
   1. Each photo submission must be from a SPOT (“space”, account/profile) at CoTradeCo with valid email address and phone number. A SPOT at CoTradeCo is FREE and can be used to comment on posts in the community blog, make new posts, share ideas, promote your business, and network with like minded folks.
   2. You may upload as many pictures of you and your laptop as you like.
6. JUDGING. Trader Dan (CoTradeCo staff) will judge the best photo of people and their laptops. Trader Dan’s decision will be final. However, Trader Dan is easily influenced by awe-inspiring comments included with photos and the opinions of the CoTradeCo community at large (comment on the pictures you like!). To help you understand what might constitute a winning photo here are the basic judging outlines:
   1. The photo include a picture of a laptop. We would love to have you in the picture, but it is not necessary (probably will help, but isn’t necessary)
   2. The photo should represent you somehow.
   3. Pictures that show you using your laptop in a circumstance or environment where you really need a Pelican protector case helps, but is not vital.
   4. As in judging any photograph, good composition and content will be considered.
   5. Caption your picture. THE STORY BEHIND THE PICTURE OR WHY YOU NEED THE CASE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHETHER YOU ARE AN AWARD WINNING PHOTOGRAPHER. Better yet, include a story about you, your laptop, and what you do with it. The better the context, the more the photo will be considered. The image is only half the story, and the story is what Trader Dan wants to SEE and HEAR.
   6. Photoshopped files will be considered. Yes, you can create an image of you using your laptop while hunting a great white whale from a kayak named the Pequod. However, you better be really good at Photoshop or have a really good reason or effect that is achieved. This is not a contest for the most skill with a camera or Photoshop, it is about you, an ernest photo and creativity. Color correction, cropping, and other basic adjustments will make your picture look better and don’t count as being photoshopped.
   7. Pornographic images or images of illegal activities will be removed and disqualify you.
   8. You must have the legal right to upload the photo. Generally speaking this means this picture is of you and your laptop and was taken by a friend or yourself (See the next rule on judging for more info).
   9. Per a visitor comment, not everyone owns a laptop. Therefore, by certain logic we are technically requiring someone to purchase a laptop and we claim that no purchase is necessary. This is a contest. The contest is for a laptop case. Presumably you own a laptop that you want to put into a case. Therefore the contest is about you and your laptop and why you deserve a free Pelican 1090 laptop case. However, we are a forward thinking company and recognize that you might want to win the case as a gift or to use for some other purpose. This doesn’t change the fact that the point of the contest is submitting the best picture of you and your laptop. We have decided however, to accept a picture of any laptop (that you have the legal right to submit i.e. you own the rights to the picture) with accompanying story about how this is not your laptop but why you deserve to win the case anyway. If you are planning to give the winning case to a poor child in the city or are going to protect delicate glass sculptures of number 2 pencils you will probably win anyway. All of the same judging criteria remain in place otherwise.
7. GRAND PRIZE: 1 Pelican 1090 HardBack™ case (with free shipping).
8. FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVE PROMOTIONAL DISCOUNTS:
   1. Getting the first-come-first-serve discount requires ordering a case through our online catalog after you have entered the contest for the grand prize. Note that there are no guarantees of receiving the first-come-first-serve discount. Orders must be placed online. Orders placed in an attempt to get the discount will show FULL PRICE for the case at the time of checkout and your card will not be charged at that time. Whatever discount you qualify for will be applied manually by the CoTradeCo staff and you will be notified by email of the final discounted amount. Until we post notification that all 1,090 $10.90 discounts have been given out, even if you do not “win” the (10) 90% off or (90) +10% below cost discounts, you are guaranteed to receive the $10.90 discount. For the first hour of the promotional discounts please allow 15 minutes for notification of the discount you qualified for.

9. RESTRICTIONS: CoTradeCo staff/sales reps/dealers and their friends and families, CoTradeCo community partners staff and their friends and families, and CoTradeCo Suppliers/Vendors/Manufacturers staff and their friends and families are not eligible for the FIRST-COME-FIRST-SERVE PROMOTIONAL DISCOUNTS, excepting the $10.90 discount. CoTradeCo staff/sales reps/dealers and families, CoTradeCo community partners staff and families, and CoTradeCo Suppliers/Vendors/Manufacturers staff and families are not eligible for the GRAND PRIZE. HOWEVER, friends of the any staff and their families ARE eligible for the GRAND PRIZE. Anyone may receive the $10.90 discount who has entered the contest for the grand prize. CoTradeCo reserves the right to discontinue the contest at any time, in which event, only entries (i.e. people who uploaded pictures of them and their laptops) prior to that date will be considered, and any remaining discounts will not be null and void. CoTradeCo reserves the right, in our sole discretion to modify or cancel all or any portions of the contest because of technical errors or malfunctions, viruses, hackers, or for other reasons that corrupt the contest in any manner. CoTradeCo also reserves the right in their sole discretion to disqualify any entrant who fails to comply with these Official Rules, who attempts to enter the contest in any manner or through any means other than as described in these Official Rules, or who attempts to disrupt the contest or to circumvent any of these Official Rules.
10. Accessiblity: You are responsible for providing your own access to the internet in order to upload your picture for the contest. CoTradeCo is not responsible for any loss of information or damages resulting from your ability to access our servers, either through a lack of internet access, or due to server/software or any other malfunction during the course of the contest. Unfortunately we will not accept snail mail or other submission methods to the contest, without a previous agreement in writing. We are attempting to build awareness for and membership to our communities and we feel as though it is more than fair to require you to sign up at our site to participate. This is a contest and not a sweepstakes or a lottery and we appreciate your understanding. That said if you have a really compelling argument why we should accept your particular submission Trader Dan is a reasonable guy and you can try contacting him!
11. NOTIFICATION AND AWARDING OF GRAND PRIZE: The winner, if any, will be notified by private message through their SPOT at CoTradeCo and/or by phone. After verifying that the winner is eligible, and getting the correct mailing address if necessary, the GRAND PRIZE will be shipped (for free) to the winner the following day. If the winner does not respond in 1,090 minutes (18 hours 10.000002 minutes) from the time of notification (PST), or the prize is returned as undeliverable, the second place runnerup will become the winner, and the process repeats. By participating, a winner, except where prohibited by law, grants Sponsors and their affiliated companies the right to use the winner’s name, likeness, picture, portrait, hometown, voice, biographical information and written submissions and written or oral statements, for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation unless required by law.
12. Any information provided during the contest, uploaded or entered into your SPOT, to the community blogs, or to our shopping system is subject to our standard policies . You WILL NOT BE PUT ON A MAILING LIST or otherwise contacted except through normal community communication tools, some of which do have email notifications, which you may turn on and off in your SPOT. Please note that this is not some spam-fest attempting to collect email addresses. We just want you to visit our site and experience our communities. And this would be a good time to emphasize that entrants agree to release and hold harmless CoTradeCo, their affiliates and subsidiaries, and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, agents, successors, and assigns, from any damage, injury, death, loss, or other liability that may arise from entrant’s participation in the contest or the awarding, acceptance, use, or misuse of any prize.
